Little Kickers Soccer Program for 3 and 4 years old - Fall 2009
posted 06/16/2009

The Little Kickers Program is designed for 3-4 year old children that have never played soccer before. Players participate in age appropriate activities and games that will help build a solid foundation for skills and develop the confidence aimed at a life long love of the game of soccer. As a parent you should not expect the same structure and games that older players participate in. You will be asked to participate in the activities/games that are specifically tailored for this age group. We break up into small groups and assigned trainers will guide you and your child through the various activities. Scrimmage games are scheduled later on the season for those that want to participate in a game type situation

Siblings, grandparents, relatives are all welcome. We try to make it fun for everyone as this is typically the first exposure to an organized sport that the child will have. We'll start up again in September 2009 (Fall season) and have two available sessions, 9am or 10am. There are 6 sessions in all. Cost is $75.00 and it includes a t-shirt and ball.

Click here for more information and to download/print a registration form or contact the Cherokee Impact office at (770) 704-0187, option 3.

Is Water Enough?
by Dr. Ross Brakeville posted 06/16/2009

If being woken from a sound peaceful sleep by what feels like a Guantanamo Bay torture treatment sending a jolt of electricity through your calf, otherwise known as a “cramp”, makes for a successful night, then stop here and read the latest update on “cooking green”. If not, a quick analysis of several clues as to why they hit, may keep you from suffering both cramps and nightmares on torture.

Goalie′s Life - A poem by a soccer goalie
posted 04/02/2009

Goalie’s Life

Pulling on shin guards,
Sliding on socks,
Lacing on cleats,
Slipping on knee guards to guard me from rocks.

Grabbing a G2,
Running out the door,
Remembering the last win,
Can’t wait for more.

Stepping onto the field,
Taking two fast laps,
Warming up in the goal box,
Reading the ball like a map.

Starting whistle sounds,
I stand in my goalie pose,
Yelling for my team to pass,
I’m always on my toes.

Diving and jumping for the ball,
Yelling “keeper” on my way,
Players yield to my shout,
They heed what I say.

The end comes with three short blasts,
I played shutout again,
We all cheer excitedly,
We won our game again.

Going home and washing off,
I was caked in dirt,
I check for bad injuries,
Thank gosh I wasn’t hurt.

I go to bed,
Clean and healed,
Dreaming of more soccer games,
And wins that we have sealed.

-Rachel (Cha-Cha) Peterson

Sidelines Soccer Etiquette
by Frank Gonzalez posted 06/05/2008

The proper guidelines to follow from the sideline is that all cheering should be post action statements; "good shot", "nice try", "good run", "great hustle".  Focus on making statements that will support the players efforts after they have performed them and not before.  When you instruct, most players are likely to be confused and/or embarrassed. As you will see below, in the great real world example, that it is very difficult to think on your own if someone is constantly on you!  Enjoy and absorb the exchange between this Mother and Child!

Coaching from a teenage son
A mother was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her teenage son. Suddenly the boy bursts into the kitchen.

"Careful! Careful! Put in some more butter! Oh my goodness! You're cooking too many at once.

TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful!.CAREFUL! I said CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you crazy?

Have you lost your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

The mother stared at him. "What's wrong with you? You think I don't now how to fry a couple of eggs?"

The son calmly replied, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm trying to play soccer."

GYSA Parent Education Program

Parents are an integral part of Georgia soccer clubs. They have a huge impact on the structure and philosophy of youth soccer, but they are not always offered the soccer education they deserve. To address this need, Georgia Soccer's Director of Coaching has developed a new Parent Education program.
